Harvest time is very complicated, more so if the winery is in a remote location. And something that caused us problems was to get workers. So, as a winemaker, you have to do these tasks yourself.
.
When transferring wine from one tank to another, once it is finished, one has to close the valve of the receptive tank and loose the pipe a bit so that the wine that remains in the pipe is sucked back into the tank, i.e. to pump in reverse or backwards.
.
Since we had few workers, I was loosening the pipe and Don Antonio was handling the pump. I started shouting: “Backwards, backwards!” but Don Antonio instead of pressing the reverse button, he started pulling the pump backwards until he disconnected the pipe and I was bathed in Malbec wine.
