The Viola family had been thinking about how to name their winery for a long time. They wanted a name that referred to Patagonia. At first, they thought “Newen” would be good, but they weren’t so happy about that name. Until one day, Julio Viola participated in a dinner in France while he was promoting his project. Jean-Marie Chadronier, one of the most important winery owners in France, was there with his wife. While Julio Viola was talking about the newly born project, he asked Chadronier’s wife how she liked Patagonia. The woman said in French “the land at the end of the world”. At that moment, it dawned on Julio Viola that that would be the name for his winery.
